Check out the premiere of 'Real Love' at the Stadium Theatre on Thursday, April 17.
Quixotic United Productions has announced it will premiere its first feature film, the Massachusetts-shot
Real Love, on Thursday, April 17 at the Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket. Tickets for the premiere start at $11 and can be purchased here.
A romantic comedy taking place in Boston, the film tells the story of Beth and Dylan, two post-grads, who feel pressured to act more like adults when their best friends become engaged. As they stumble their way into adulthood, they have difficulty comprehending exactly what it takes to love someone other than themselves. Real Love was written by Kelsey Hogan and Patrick Skeyhill, both of whom are recent graduates from Emerson College in Boston.
The perfect venue
"Since this was a local film, made with a local cast and crew, funded mostly by local people, it just felt right to premiere it here," said Patrick Skeyhill, director of Real Love and president of Quixotic United. "We could have done it at a chain theatre, but we wanted to use one that could only be found in the area. The Stadium was the perfect choice."
"People from my own family have been to that theatre," said Jake Standley, unit production manager on Real Love. "Many people around here have attended performances at the Stadium theatre and appreciate what it brings to the community. Everyone at the theatre has been very accommodating to us, they really strive to help support and promote local artists like ourselves."
Funding success
The film was made for $8,000, most of which was donated via the crowd-funding platform, Kickstarter. Donors from Massachusetts to Washington State helped contribute amounts ranging from $1 to $500 in exchange for various rewards, including free DVDs of the movie as well as an invitation to the film's wrap party. The Kickstarter campaign took place in September 2012 and production occurred the following year, from February to August
Quixotic United was founded in August 2011 by Patrick Skeyhill. Based in Milford, Massachusetts, the company now boasts eight employees who are specialists in their respective artistic fields. As a collaborative, they write and produce short films, feature films, and web series as well as producing work for other musicians and screenwriters.
