With so many talented superstars making music these days, it's easy to forget that so many of them actually got their start on reality television singing shows. We're taking a look back at some of today's biggest stars who started singing for a judging panel.
Without a bit of research, you may never have guessed that Beyonce actually started out on a reality TV show when she was younger. Although it didn't really 'make' her career, she still appeared.
Then, there's other big names such as Kelly Clarkson, and Jennifer Hudson who appeared on American Idol, but they've paved their way that much in the music industry that if you weren't aware of their background, then you'd never actually be able to guess that they kickstarted their career on a reality TV show.
Beyoncé
Way back in the early 1990s, Beyoncé Knowles and her Girl Tyme bandmates (who actually became the original Destiny's Child line-up) appeared on the show 'StarSearch'. Though they didn't do too well on the show, shortly afterwards, the super group went on to be one of the biggest girl bands ever, and well, Beyoncé's success speaks for itself.
Kelly Clarkson
After the crazy successful career she's had, it's easy to forget that Kelly Clarkson actually got her start on the first ever season of 'American Idol' back in 2002. Since she won the show, the 'Since U Been Gone' singer has won three MTV Video Music Awards, a People's Choice Award and three Grammys.
Jennifer Hudson
You'd probably never guess that Jennifer Hudson appeared on American Idol back in 2004. 10 years on and JHUD is still enjoying SO much success in the music industry. Next week, she will put out her third studio album. Yes, she's been in the game for 10 years and only put out 3 studio albums, but she's still a talking point, which shows you that it's sometimes it's quality over quantity. Hudson has managed to pave her own way in the music industry, and doesn't need to bear those 'American Idol' labels, as she's an artist in her own right. So without knowing, you may never have guessed that Jennifer Hudson actually hailed from American Idol, and more impressively, she finished in the 'Top 7′ week, so she made it nowhere near the finale, and has still managed to make it out on top.
Leona Lewis
In 2006, Leona Lewis won 'The X Factor', ironically by performing a cover of Kelly Clarkson's 'American Idol' winning song 'A Moment Like This'. Today, Lewis has been nominated for 3 Grammys and is one of the most successful 'The X Factor' contestants of all time.
Justin Timberlake
When he was just 11 years old, the boy who would eventually bring SexyBack appeared on 'StarSearch', singing the country song 'Love's Got A Hold On You' by Alan Jackson. He later went on to join 'NSYNC and became one of the most successful solo male artists of all-time.
Carly Rae Jepson
Little do people know, the 'Call Me Maybe' singer actually got her start on the fifth season of 'Canadian Idol' back in 2007. After making it to the top three, she later released one of the catchiest pop songs of all time, which won her a Grammy nomination for 'Song of The Year'.
Miranda Lambert
Now one of country music's biggest stars, Miranda Lambert actually finished in third place on the US talent show 'Nashville Star'. Two years after she competed, the 'The House That Built Me' singer released her debut album, and today has a slew wins and nominations at the ACMs, CMAs, CMTs, and Grammy Awards.
Britney Spears
Yet another StarSearch contestant! Back in 1992, the 'Oops! I Did It Again' singer appeared in the talent show singing 'Love Can Build a Bridge'. Just seven years later, she released '…Baby One More Time' and is now one of the most famous and most photographed women in the world.
