Celebrity divorces and break-ups are so inevitable that it's rare to shed a tear over them when they're announced. "Well, that's done," we say, checking how we did in the office betting pool. "On to the next doomed romance." Sometimes the relationships go on longer than we expected (like three years of marriage instead of six months) and we're like, "God, I thought you two would never break up. What took you so long?!"
But then there are those beautiful celebrity couples you just cannot bear to see break up, and when it finally happens it destroys you. For whatever reason, be it their mutual likeability or how cute they look together on the red carpet, you just want things to work out between them. These are nine of the celebrity break-ups that made us question if love is even real.
1. Amy Poehler and Will Arnett

Never have I wanted to Parent Trap a couple more than I do Amy and Will. How often do two totally hilarious and adorable famous people join forces to be hilarious and adorable and famous together in holy matrimony? Not too often. Thankfully they had a couple of kids before parting ways, so their combined hilarity will be passed on to the next generation. And they seem to be on good terms, thank goodness.

Excuse me, but aren't these two supposed to continue making our Nicholas Sparks dreams come true in real life forever and ever? I just want these two cute Canadians to be together and do cute Canadian things. Is that so much to ask?

I remember exactly where I was when I found out these two were getting a divorce. My college friend and I had just caught up on Dexter and loved both of their characters. We were sitting in my dorm room and saw the headline online. We both screamed in anguish, and the people next door asked if we were okay. The answer is still "NO."

But they're both so cute in their casual clothes, and when they went for walks with Michelle's daughter Matilda, they lined up in a row like the three bears. Why must my three bears be separated?!

If these two ridiculously attractive people can't make it work, what hope is there for the rest of us average-looking people? And besides all that, they seem to still get along and love each other, so why the hell can't they do that as a gorgeous married couple?

Both super handsome. Both super talented. Both super able to rock thin cotton shirts. What's the problem here? It's a match made in Heaven. Ugh, when will celebrities understand?

When couples break up and have to continue working together, like these two on The Vampire Diaries, it's obviously super awkward. For us as an audience, I mean. I guess it might also be super awkward for them as a former couple, but I'm mostly concerned about how we feel witnessing what could have been every week on our couches. Somehow them getting along almost makes it worse.

What's better than a gorgeous, talented couple? A gorgeous, talented couple who can SIIIIIING. It's going to take me approximately 525,600 minutes to get used to these two not being a Broadway power couple anymore.

These two worked things out and are back together, THANK GOD. I really don't know if I'd be sitting here typing this right now if they'd stayed separated. Look at them in their matching outfits. They should never part.
