All good, and some horrible, things must come to an end. Just look at the many celebrity relationships that reached their finales in 2014. From the couples who appeared to be perfect matches (Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy) to the ones you were surprised lasted as long as they did (Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa), here's a rundown of the year's biggest breakups.

It's always good to try to own the narrative, but sometimes that blows up in your face. Just look at the actress and the Coldplay rocker's frequently mocked attempt to redefine separation by dubbing theirs a "conscious uncoupling" – on her blog, no less! Rather than highlight the pair's seemingly genuine interest in staying friends — which does actually seem to be the case — the married couple of 10 years just made sure theirs was the breakup we couldn't stop talking about.

2. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon

While some couples try to keep things civil, others seem incapable, even if there are kids involved. Take, for example, the pop diva and the "America's Got Talent" host, who, despite their adorable twins Monroe and Moroccan, have endured a rocky few months of separation. Nick ditched his wedding ring as soon as he could and went on a Twitter rant, while Mariah demanded he keep his mouth shut and has hinted at his possible infidelity.

3. Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy

There might not be many breakups more embarrassing than this one. The top-ranked golfer broke up with his longtime flame days after they sent out their wedding invitations. The tennis pro was so taken aback, she initially thought he was joking. And if all that wasn't bad enough, McIlroy's season took off following the split.

4. Johnny Weir and Victor Voronov

There was no 2014 split nastier than this one. In the nine months since the Olympic star and his estranged lawyer husband called it quits, there have been very public allegations of animal abuse, cheating (from sexting to actual sex) and emotional abuse. They've also called off the divorce … twice. Things have been quiet as of late, but how long can that last?

5. Sherri Shepherd and Lamar Sally

Getting booted from "The View" wasn't even close to the worse part of Shepherd's 2014. That would be the dissolution of her marriage to Sally, months before the couple's surrogate was due to give birth. What followed was a nasty war of words that involved legal threats over the unborn child, allegations that Shepherd was turning her back on the baby and the resurfacing of her other ex, Jeff Tarpley. To make matters worse, the whole experience seemed to forge a bond between Sally and Tarpley.

6. Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa

At the time of their one-year anniversary, the model and the rapper looked to be the happiest of couples, but weeks later it was all over. Since the split, which left Rose learning the definition of "true heartache," people close to her accused him of cheating on her with twins, and a Playboy model tried to shop around a sex tape featuring Khalifa. But, hey, at least they're talking again.

7. Ciara and Future

Despite making adorable music and an even more adorable baby together, the singer and the rapper couldn't keep their seemingly perfect relationship going. Three months after the birth of baby Future, Ciara caught wind that her guy was messing around and pulled the plug on their engagement.

8. Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart

This was about as clean as they come, all things considered. Although Lopez broke up with her former back-up dancer after she caught him allegedly sexting with two transsexual models, the two have remained friendly, with Smart taking to Twitter to praise her latest album.

9. Michael Wolff and Alison Anthoine

The outspoken journalist and the lawyer may have been separated since 2009, but that didn't make the final end of their relationship any less unexpected. Wolff filed for divorce without bothering to tell Anthoine, who he married all the way back in 1981.

10. Big Sean and Naya Rivera

The rapper and Kim Kardashian look-a-like's decision to break off their engagement may have at first just seemed like it would result in some petty unsourced allegations in the tabloids, but ended up giving rise to the year's most over-the-top (and potentially hilarious) breakup song, "I Don't F—k With You," which a few people on this list just might consider their song of the year.
