They're the shows that help make the dreams of aspiring singers and dancers a reality.
But Australian talent programs could be facing a dire future after Channel Ten confirmed So You Think You Can Dance Australia will not be returning next year.
And other series could follow, with the future of The Voice Australia and The X Factor in doubt over poor ratings.
Cancelled: Channel Ten has confirmed So You Think You Can Dance Australia will not be retu rning to the network next year
History: The reality show was first cancelled in 2010 then revived in February of this year, with Sydney dancer Michael Dameski placing first
The Australian version of the American franchise So You Think You Can Dance first aired in 2008, before being cancelled in 2010 - then revived in February of this year, with Sydney dancer Michael Dameski placing first.
And while Grammy Award winning US artist Paula Abdul served as a judge Dow n Under, even her star power couldn't pull enough viewers to make the show worthwhile.
The series has now been cancelled a second time by Channel Ten due to the poor ratings.
Despite a promotional campaign the season four launch of the franchise in February only managed to bring in 466,000 viewers.
It ranked below David Attenborough's Rise of Animals ABC special which drew in 752,000 viewers.
A spokesperson for the network told The Daily Telegraph on Sunday, 'We can confirm that So You Think You Can Dance won't be returning to Ten in 2015.'
Concerns have now surfaced about the future of other talent shows after The Voice Kids and The X Factor also took a ratings dive in their most recent seasons.
Judges: There are concerns The Voice Australia could also face a gloomy future due to poor ratings in recent seasons
Group shot: It is not known if The Voice Kids will ret urn in 2015, despite judges such as Delta Goodrem, Mel B and the Madden brothers providing star power
Sources at Channel Nine said The Voice Kids will be likely rested next year, although no official announcements have been made.
Sister show The Voice will return despite only averaging a disappointing 1.579 million viewers during this year's season finale.
The 2013 final episode averaged 2.3 million viewers tuning in to see Harrison Craig scoop the title.
In 2012 the finale had a peak of 3.09 million people tuning to see Karise Eden win the singing reality show.
Applications for the fourth season in 2015 have now closed.
Fellow singing program X Factor is also coming back but Channel Seven will no doubt be hopi ng for a spike in ratings.
This year the show, which was originally created in the United Kingdom by Simon Cowell, has had a ratings drop of more than 20 per cent in Sydney and more than 30 per cent in Melbourne compared to last year since the series started airing.
Online applications are now open.
They'll be back: Although it has suffered a drop in ratings, X Factor will return for another season
